Lilongwe City Council set to rehabilitate road

Lilongwe City Council has embarked on a project to rehabilitate the 5.6-kilometre Area 23 Road.

Speaking on Monday during the launch of the project, Lilongwe City mayor Richard Banda said the road has been in bad shape for a long time.

“I am happy that we are finally handing over the project to the contractor for rehabilitation works to begin,” he said.

Lilongwe City South East legislator Ulemu Msungama said the project is a fulfilment of his promises to deliver “substantial development”.

“This road has been in bad state for a long time. Previously, rehabilitation works only involved filling up potholes. We cannot talk about development when the roads are in bad state,” he said.

Lilongwe City Council Engineer Cleaverson Nyando said the project will be completed in four months.

“The scope of the work includes widening the shoulders by a metre because the road was narrow,” he said.
