A shocking incident took place at St. Augustine Community Day Secondary School in Nkhata-Bay, Malawi today, as a form 4 classroom was struck by lightning during class hours.
The strike affected 13 students and caused classes to be disrupted for the rest of the day.
The affected students were immediately rushed to the Nkhatabay District Hospital for medical attention.
Nkhata-Bay District Health Promotion Officer, Christopher Singini, confirmed that the hospital received 13 students, 12 of whom are girls. The students have since been treated as outpatients and are in stable condition.
The school’s head teacher, Lameck Longwe, also confirmed the incident and expressed concern for the well-being of the affected students.
He praised the quick response of the hospital staff and teachers in ensuring that the students received prompt medical attention.
