Lester Maganga’s murder case committed to High Court

Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda has committed the Wittika murder case to the High Court.

The case involves Lester Maganga, who is being accused of “causing the death of Allan Wittika”, a former employee of Coca Cola Ltd.

Maganga appeared before the Lilongwe Magistrates Court this morning where the charge of murder was read to him.

After the State put to the court that Maganga needs to be on remand for 90 days to allow them finalize investigations, Chief Resident Magistrate Nyirenda said that the case is being committed to the High Court because his court has no mandate to try murder cases.

Maganga’s lawyer, Innocent Kubwalo said that he is going to apply to the High Court on whether the accused needs to stay for 90 days in police custody.

Said Kubwalo, “We will apply for bail in the High Court. We are going to seek the court’s determination on whether the accused needs to stay in police custody for 90 days. ”
