Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo has said he is disappointed that despite his efforts to unify the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Steve Kayuni and Anti-Corruption director general (DG) Martha Chizuma there seem to be persistent hostility between the two.
In an interview Mvalo said following a presidential directive some months ago to bring to one table the three officers (ACB DG, DPP and AG) there was improved working relationship.
The minister said the incident today shows that the officers were “just pretending that all is ok” when in actual fact there are undercurrents.
“In fact I didn’t know about this arrest. Last night I had a discussion with ACB director (Chizuma) on an event that is taking place this Friday only to hear that she has been arrested today” said Mvalo who described this infighting as a clash of egos which has nothing to do with any political party or government.
He added: “But with what has happened today we must find a solution to end this fight. It doesn’t help. We need these offices to work together.”
Malawi Police Service a while ago said that the arrest of Chizuma is related to complaint lodged by Kayuni.
