Former President Dr. Joyce Banda has started an initiative aimed at assisting people from rural areas with solar-powered electrical appliances.

The appliances include solar-powered chargers, torches (some with built-in radios), solar panels among others.

Banda said the project is in the pilot phase but its core objective is to reach out to over 10 thousand beneficiaries.

“The electrical appliances are aimed at assisting people from the rural areas across the country that cannot afford to tap electricity from the national grid,” said Dr Banda during the launch of the project in Mangochi.
