International Federation of Red Cross Donates relief items worth k600 million to Malawi red cross for Cyclone Freddy victims

Over two thousand families in camps can breathe a sigh of relief as Malawi Red Cross has received a consignment worth k600 million of items from International Federation of Red Cross.

This comes as authorities are working on decommissioning camps as 480 schools were being used as camps to those affected with cyclone Freddy in the Southern Region.

President for Malawi Red Cross Society Innocent Majiya said the donation is timely as they will prepare families who are leaving camps.

According to Majiya the donated items which includes; kitchen sets, blankets, buckets, jerrycans and mosquito nets have been given at right time as the country is at recovery stage.

Concurring with Majiya, Chief Disaster Preparedness Officer at DODMA Natasha Mbengo  added that as schools will be opening on Monday they are hopeful that the donation will help other families who are relocating back to their respective homes.
