HRDC URGES GOVT TO PROVIDE PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES SUPPORT TO CYCLONE FREDDY VICTIMS

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has urged government to consider in conducting Psychological service support to all Cyclone Freddy victims as one way of helping their mental health well being.

The call by HRDC has come at a time when Malawians are still recovering from the damages caused by the recent Cyclone Freddy in the southern region of the country which has destroyed properties as well as taking people’s lives.

Vice Chairperson for HRDC, Michael Kaiyatsa, has said that such disasters can easily have impact on peoples mental health status therefore there is need of proper guidance and counseling to the affected people in order to avoid other problems that comes as a result of mental instability of a human being.

Kayiyatsa also added that on top of helping the victims with different basic item materials the government should also put in mind the psychology well being of the victims by introducing mental health awareness service in the camps.
