Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has expressed concern over failure by government to respect determinations of the Ombudsman, citing the recent case of Nocma Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hellen Buluma as an example.
In a statement on Monday, HRDC said in her determination two weeks ago, Ombudsman Grace Malera clearly stated that the contract of Buluma should be terminated immediately because she was appointed without following procedures.
But HRDC said it is surprised that the government has decided to keep quiet and bury its head in the sand on a clear and straight-forward determination by the Ombudsman.
“We demand that for once the government through the Attorney General and all other relevant stakeholders should see to it that rule of law is respected and not systematically undermined. The office of the Ombudsman is a Constitutional body established to strengthen democracy whose determination ought to be respected,” reads the statement in part.
