HRDC Calls For Immediate Release Of Investigative Journalist Gregory Gondwe

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has called for the immediate of Investigative Journalist Gregory Gondwe.

Gondwe has been arrested by the police today in Blantyre for exposing government’s rot in handling the Zuneth Sattar’s corruption scandal.

The law enforcers have also confiscated gadgets including computers and phones from Gondwe.

In the statement made available to faceofmalawi HRDC said that Gondwe’s arrest is violation of media freedom.

“HRDC strongly condemns any harassment and intimidation of journalists in the country and media houses. Journalists and media houses must be allowed to report freely, without any reprisal or hostility.

“We, therefore, call for the immediate and unconditional release of Vitus Gregory Gondwe and the return of all his confiscated items,” reads in part the statement.
