The Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) has condemned the arrest of a Karonga based man over the views he made in a video clip.
In the video clip that has now gone viral online, Lyton Mangochi makes claims that Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers attacked taxi operators for carrying bags of maize and groundnuts.
He goes on to fault President Lazarus Chakwera for failing to protect people living around Chilumba barracks.
In another video clip made available to the public, Mangochi supposedly apologizes over his earlier statement.
Commenting on the development HRCC board chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba said as much as Mangochi was in the wrong, the MDF soldiers would have used proper channels to address the matter.
