Hindu Social Group Blantyre has constructed a K2.1 million house for 89-year-old Matolino Chikadza of Maneya Village in senior Chief Kuntaja’s area in Blantyre District.
Speaking during the handover on Sunday, the group’s member, Mehul Acharya, said they helped the widower after learning that his previous grass-thatched house was partially destroyed by heavy rains.

He said: “We were inspecting one of our borehole construction projects when one of our partners, Ganizani Kuchombo, told us about the poor living condition of the man.
“After our visit, we noted that his house had partially collapsed and the other wall developed cracks. Our faith demands that we should always help the underprivileged.”
Acharya also said they plan to buy a bed, mattress and beddings for the octogenarian.
Chikadza thanked the group for the gesture, saying it was scary to sleep in a dilapidated house.
Village head Maneya urged other well-wishers to help other elderly people with decent houses.
“Old people need safe homes. I will appreciate if more well-wishers come forward to help the elderly,” he said.
