The High Court in Blantyre has directed that the Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court can now continue with the trial in the K16.5 billion tax evasion case involving Mapeto David Whitehead and Sons executives.
High Court Judge Vikochi Chima noted that defence lawyers wanted a 30-day adjournment to go through the case files and the 30 days have now passed.
In September last year defence lawyers led by John Gift Mwakhwawa obtained an injunction restraining Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kayira from hearing the case pending a review by the High Court.
