The heavy rains that have been pounding Rumphi district over the past three days have caused significant damage to the M1 road at Bale, resulting in a section of the road being cut off by floodwater.
This has left many travelers who use this road stranded, especially those traveling between Karonga and Mzuzu.
District Commissioner for Rumphi, Emmanuel Bulukutu, has confirmed that the council is aware of the situation and has already informed the National Roads Authority (NRA).
Bulukutu stated that the NRA has assured him that the contractor responsible for the maintenance of the M1 road, Chicco Contractors, will attend to the emergency works required at the site.
This unfortunate incident has caused a major inconvenience for commuters and travelers who depend on the M1 road for their daily transportation needs.
