Hearing of cement-gate case adjourned due to heavy rain

High Court judge Redson Kapindu has temporarily adjourned hearing of the Cementgate case due to heavy rains falling outside the courtroom.

The noise made it difficult to hear what Director of Public Prosecutions Steven Kayuni was saying.

The four, former state house chief of staff Peter Mukhitho and businessman Mohamed Shafee Chunara, Norman Chisale, former bodyguard to former president Peter Mutharika and MRA deputy commissioner general Roza Mbilizi are appearing before High Court judge Redson Kapindu to be charged, having been suspected to have imported 800,000 bags of cement duty-free, using Mutharika’s Taxpayer’s Identification Number, TPIN.

They were suspected to have committed the crime between 2018 and 2019, and were arrested in 2020.

Hearing of the case will continue once the rains stop.
