Grand Palace cheers cyclone survivors with relief items

Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu has donated items worth K1.4 million towards Cyclone Freddy victims.

Speaking during the handover on Tuesday, the hotel’s manager Sam Phiri said they will continue assessing the situation.

The items included four bales of children and women clothes and toilet papers. The items were handed over to Mzuzu City Council.

Said Phiri: “We have seen the negative impact that the cyclone has done to many families in the Southern Region.

“As a hotel, we get customers from all corners of the country and this donation is meant to ease some of the suffering the victims are facing.”

Receiving the items on behalf of government, Mzuzu City Council chief executive officer Gomezgani Nyasulu called on business players in Mzuzu to assist the survivors, saying the gesture displayed by Grand Palace Hotel is commendable.

“As Mzuzu City Council, we commend Grand Palace Hotel for this donation. This is the time for all of us to work together in response to this disaster,” he said.

The  items are expected to be sent to the central command in Lilongwe where recommendations will be made on which camp they will be delivered.
