The Ministry of Agriculture has withdrawn an expression of interest to establish mega farms in Malawi, barely a week after inviting eligible investors.

The development comes amid infighting in the Tonse Alliance which is being headed by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

On Friday last week, State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima hailed the plan by government to establish mega farms but faulted the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for not honouring some of the agreements.

The farms that were advertised are Dwambazi Estate in Nkhotakota, which was meant for beef cattle and Chimwamkango in Mchinji, which was meant for crops.

Many people claim that the government has halted move to establish mega farms since it was brainchild of Chilima.
