Minister of Information and Digitisation Gospel Kazako says opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has no moral ground to criticise government for failing Malawians in 2022.

He said this in a WhatsApp response on Saturday evening in response to the DPP’s 2022 round-up statement which blamed the Tonse Alliance administration for a deteriorating socio-economic status in the previous year.

In his response, Kazako, who is also the official government spokesperson, said government will not spend its energy responding to “cheap propaganda” from the same people that allegedly messed up the country.

He said: “They [DPP] have no moral ground to say anything. This country is under reconstruction due to the damage and mess that they created.”

This is not the first time the minister has blamed the previous administration for allegedly causing the current deteriorating socio-economic status. But critics have blamed government for always blaming the previous administration for the various misfortunes Malawians are facing.

In its 2022 round-up statement, DPP said government has failed to uplift Malawians’ livelihoods due to lack of economic leadership which has led to a worsening socio-economic status.

The statement, signed by DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba, said in view of the alleged failure by government to address Malawians’ suffering, President Lazarus Chakwera must “pack up and go”.

The DPP statement further said Malawians lost hope in the previous year due to a leadership lapse; hence, stressed that Malawians must fight for their rights and demand for a better nation.

The DPP lost to the Tonse Alliance, an group of nine political parties, in the June 2020 Fresh Presidential Election.
