Govt Disburses K1.5 Billion To Malawi Prison Services To Conquer Hunger Crisis

Malawi Prison Service (MPS)  has revealed that it has managed to contain the hunger crisis which hit most correctional facilities after government allocated K1.5 billion for food rations during mid year budget review.
Spokesperson for Malawi Prison Services  Chimwemwe Shaba, has said tha the budget will carter for purchase of maize and other food items up to April next year.
“We also got K600 million in November which we used to buy 16,000 bags of 50 kilogramme maize,” Shaba said.
He further said MPS is in an agreement with Ministry of Agriculture to be buying maize straight from Admarc as a means of tackling challenges which the department was facing to get maize from suppliers due to a rise in prices.
