23-year-old Dickson Babu has been sentenced to three years in prison with hard labor by the Principal Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre.
Babu was found guilty of stealing items worth K15.3 million from his employer. The stolen items included laptops, printers, desktop computers, fertilizers, mattresses, a generator, and a speaker.
Babu confessed to the crime after being arrested by the Blantyre Police.
The court agreed with the prosecution’s request for a harsher punishment, citing Babu’s untrustworthiness.
Principal Resident Magistrate Godfrey Balaka handed down the 36-month imprisonment sentence.
Dickson Babu hails from Saiwa village Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu district.
