GALITO’s Caught up in Escom Pre-Paid Units Scandal

One of the leading fast-food restaurants in the country GALITO’s has been charged MK13.9Million for buying Pre-paid ESCOM Electricity Units through illegal means.

Galito’s belongs to the owners of Crossroads Hotel.

The Pre-paid meter at Galitos is registered in the name of Sinegy Farm Central Poultry.

However, the development follows reports that ESCOM employees have since 2018 defrauded about K60 billion kwacha worth of pre-paid meter units sold by parallel structures to companies and individuals in the country.

According to ESCOM CEO Kamkwamba Kumwenda the electricity supplying company will now embark on a nationwide inspection of the 461,000 properties that have been flagged in the fraud.

Kamwamba said they will also start to name and shame the people involved while legal avenues.
