South Africa-based forward Frank Gabadinho Mhango has been ruled out of the forthcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Ethiopia due to a groin injury.
The injury could reduce the AmaZulu FC forward, who is the Flames’ leading scorer in this campaign with two goals, up to two months.
Mhango: It was very bad
A groin strain is an injury that occurs when one tears or pulls a groin muscle.
The DStv Premiership side’s coach Ayanda Dlamini confirmed Mhango’s injury in an interview with South African online publication idiskitimes.co.za.
He was responding to a question why the 30-year-old has not been playing lately.
Dlamini said Mhango sustained the injury during a league match against SuperSport United which Usuthu lost 2-1 last month.
The former Orlando Pirates striker missed the last four games for his club.
“Mhango picked a groin injury against SuperSport and will be out for three months,” Dlamini was quoted as having said by iDiski Times.
Mhango confirmed the injury in a separate interview yesterday, saying he is currently undergoing treatment.
He said: “It was bad but I have started the healing process. I got four injections to stabilise the injury and I have been told to rest for a month before I can start light training. The assumptikon is that I could be out for two months or so.”
