South Africa-based forward Frank ‘GabadinhoMhango’s manager Mike Makaab says the player has come up with two options for his DStv Premiership side Orlando Pirates.
The striker has been reduced to a sideshow at the Buccaneers, the latest being his exclusion from the travelling squad for yesterday’s CAF Confederation Cup final against Morocco’s RS Berkane in Nigeria.
Mhango in action for Pirates before things turned sour
Gagasi FM quoted Makaab as having said: “He [Gabadinho] has said to me, if he’s in the technical staff’s plans for the new season, he looks forward to staying at Pirates.”
“If he’s not [in the plans] and there is an opportunity for him to move locally or abroad, then he’s also open to that.
“I’m pretty sure within the next maximum four to six weeks we’ll be exactly where Gabba is going to be. Will he be at Pirates, will he be at another club locally or abroad? Let us wait.
“Once again, it will be done in the correct fashion, he’s contracted to Orlando Pirates.”
But two weeks ago, the 29-year told Weekend Nation that he had mutually agreed with Pirates to part ways.
He said: “We had a meeting recently and both parties agreed by mutual consent to part ways,” Mhango said.
“It is a huge relief to me because I was hardly enjoying game time. It has been a stressful season for me and I can’t wait to move on and, hopefully, this will be a new dawn for my career.”
Should he leave Pirates, Mhango, a fan favourite, will have to be sold as the club exercised an option to extend his contract by another two years.
Despite his stellar performance at the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in January where he was among the leading scorers with three goals from three matches, Mhango has hardly enjoyed game time, making only two starts so far this season.
