Four Lawyers Facing Discipline from Malawi Law Society for Misconduct, including Embezzlement

The Malawi Law Society (MLS) has taken action against four lawyers for their misconduct, including embezzling funds intended for clients and conduct that discredits the legal profession.

The MLS Honorary Secretary, Chrispine Ngunde, has named the lawyers as Ritchie Katsichi, Nicely Msowoya, Maxwell Tembo and Benard Everson Sitolo.

According to the public notice, Tembo, Msowoya and Katsichi were found guilty of embezzling clients’ funds, while Sitolo was found to have behaved in a way that brought disrepute to the profession.

As a result, Tembo has been disbarred, and the others have been suspended. Msowoya and Katsichi will be suspended for two years, while Sitolo will be suspended for six months.

The MLS has urged clients of the suspended lawyers to follow up on their files and report any issues to the Society.
