Former MERA CEO Magalasi, Others found with a case to answer

The High Court, Judge Patrick Chirwa, sitting as Chief Resident Magistrate has found Collins Magalasi, Former Chief Executive Officer for Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority  (MERA), Businesswoman Dorothy Shonga, Patrick Maulidi and Bright Mbewe with a case to answer.

The suspects were arrested in 2020 on accusations that they influenced MERA Internal Procurement and Disposal Committee to award a contract worth K186 million to Vink Enterprise which is owned by Shonga.

According to Chirwa, the Court is satisfied that the State has made a case against the accused, therefore it is now up to them to give their side of the story.

The ruling was delivered today on Tuesday December 6, 2022 in Lilongwe.
