Malawi’s former finance minister Joseph Mwananvekha is this morning appearing before Chief Magistrate Court in the capital Lilongwe for misinforming the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mwananvekha and former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe are accused of giving wrong information to IMF.

The said information was allegedly aimed at giving the IMF an impression that the government of Malawi was meeting conditions of the $108million Extended Credit Facility.

In an earlier court appearance, Mwananvekha applied for a discharge from the case, on the basis that the state failed to serve disclosures to defense in time.
