Former Chairman of Salima Sugar Company Arrested for K23 Billion Fraud

The Malawi Police has arrested former Salima Sugar Company Chairman Shirieesh Betgiri for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of funds amounting to K23 billion.

National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed the arrest and announced the issuance of four more warrants for individuals linked to the fraudulent activity.

The arrests come in the wake of a forensic audit report revealing that private investors in the company defrauded the government.

The investigation is ongoing to bring those involved to justice.
