Social media influencer Rhodney Salamu has accused foreign nationals of killing local business by among others flooding the local market with cheap quality goods.

Salamu made the accusation in a recorded video clip made available to the publication on Friday.

According to Salamu, foreign business people are killing local businesses with their mass-produced yet sub-standard or cheap-quality goods with which they flood the market.

He further condemned foreigners who are plying trade meant for the locals mainly in the rural areas.

The laws of Malawi prohibits foreigners traders from working in the rural areas but according to Salamu this is  not the case as Burundians, Chinese and Lebanese have flooded the local market a development posing a challenge to the local efforts aimed at reducing poverty in rural areas.   

The fearless activist Salamu has also pushed holes on the increase number of foreigners acquiring land illegally.

He further called upon government to probe all suspicious land deals between government officials and foreigners.

Under the Land Act of 2016, neither Malawians nor foreigners are able to acquire freehold land; foreigners are able to secure lease-hold land for terms up to 50 years, and potentially longer. In addition, foreigners can only secure private land when no citizen has made an offer for the land.
