At least five people have been arrested for vandalizing and stealing property belonging to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom).

Escom’s sub-contractor Aggrey Mwakasungula is among the arrested.

The police have since recovered aluminium power conductors suspected to have been stolen by the suspects.

Lilongwe Police Spokesperson Hastings Chigalu says this follows a vandalism incident report in Mitundu by Escom where at least 14 poles were taken down and aluminum power conductor wire valued at K11. 6 million was stolen.
