A 24-year-old fisherman from Chivuta Village in Traditional Authority Fukamapiri in NKhata-Bay district Timothy Banda has died after his canoe capsized Sunday afternoon.

Nkhata-Bay police spokesperson Sergeant Kondwani James has confirmed about the incident, saying Banda met his fate following heavy Mwera winds that caused strong water waves on the lake.

Police says Banda’s body was found by his family members floating on the lake and they reported the matter to Chintheche Police.

Meanwhile, police in the district are advising fishermen to avoid plying their trade in harsh weather conditions.
