FDH Bank plc has given K5 million to Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter as sponsorship for the awards gala to be held in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Speaking during the presentation of the cheque in Blantyre on Friday, FDH Bank plc public relations manager Lorraine Chikhula said they consider the media as their partners.
“As FDH Bank plc, we are honoured to have sponsored the upcoming activities which include sponsorship of several key awards categories to our media partners,” she said.
Chikhula said the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed bank recognises the important role the media plays.
A representative of Misa Malawi Chapter Aubrey Mchulu, who is also The Nation editor, thanked FDH Bank plc for the sponsorship.
He said: “This is a big boost which we have received.
“We are grateful to FDH Bank for this partnership. This is the first time it it pumping in such a huge amount.”
World Press Freedom Day is commemorated on May 3 every year.
