FDD President Edith Nawakwi arrested for abduction in Zambia

FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has been charged and arrested for the offence of abduction.

In a statement, police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the arrest of Ms Nawakwi 63.

“Police in Lusaka have formally charged and arrested Edith Nawakwi aged 63 of Roma Township in Lusaka for the offence of abduction contrary to section 253 and 256 chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia,” he said.

Mr Mwale said facts of the offence are that Ms Nawakwi while acting together with others unknown, is alleged to have forced pheluna Hatembo and Milton Hatembo into confinement against their will at different Lodges in Lusaka after deceiving them that she was going to help them.

“She asked them to travel to Lusaka from Choma,” he said.

Mr Mwale said during the time of their confinement, the victims were not allowed to move, communicate with anyone and do anything without her authority.

He said the incident occurred between September 2020 and January 2021 in Lusaka.

Mr Mwale said Ms Nawakwi has been released on Police Bond pending court appearance.
