The Chikwawa Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 22-year-old Montfort Kwegau to five years imprisonment for dislocating the arm of his three-year-old daughter over fish.

Kwegau, who got custody of the child after separating from her mother due to domestic violence, assaulted the daughter for allegedly eating fish, leaving her arm fractured.

Magistrate Byson Masonga found Kwegau guilty of acts intending to cause grievous harm, a crime which he committed on May 3 this year.

The State urged the court to hand Kwegau a stiff punishment saying he had subjected the child to unspeakable horror.

On this, Masonga nodded and went on to condemn Kwegau as an irresponsible father before slapping him with a five-year jail term.
