Ex-police officer jailed for aiding convict to escape lawful custody

The former Sub-Inspector of police, Mark Dyson aged 38, has been found guilty and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for helping a defilement convict to escape from lawful custody in Nsanje district.

First Grade Magistrate for Nsanje, Watson Mankhanamba, delivered the ruling.

According to Police evidence, on June 7th, 2021, Dyson took a suspect, Davison Bangeya aged 26 who hails from Chisi village in the area of Senior Tengani in  the district from prison.

In January last year, 10 suspects escaped from Nsanje police cell, nine of which were re-arrested and one, a Makoka primary school teacher identified as Seda Bonzo, who allegedly defiled a 15 year-old girl is still not found.

Mark Dyson hails from Makanya village in the Traditional Authority Kalumbu in Lilongwe.
