Ex-Minister Henry Mussa, Gideon Munthali arrives at the Court

Former minister of information Henry Mussa and former director of information Gideon Munthali have arrived at the Court in LIlongwe for their sentencing.

High Court judge Patrick Chirwa, sitting as Chief Resident Magistrate, is expected to hand the sentence today after the two were found guilty in a theft case.

Mussa and Munthali were found guilty in October last year in relation to the disappearance of 10 computers and a genset at the Ministry of Information.

When the convicts appeared in court last week, their lawyers pleaded with the Court to allow them to do community work.

“We humbly ask the court to be lenient when it comes to sentencing the first accused. He is a first-time offender and already paid over K7 million and returned some items to government,” Mussa’s lawyer, Kalekeni Kaphale, pleaded.

In December last year, Mussa paid back K7,650,000 to cater for the stolen items.
