The funeral ceremony of the late Eliya Katola Phiri is underway in Kasungu.

Katola died on Monday.

Apart from being a veteran politician and former cabinet minister, he was a step father of Alliance For Democracy President, Enoch Chihana.

Among those present is UDF President Atupele Muluzi , Former Gentleman, Richard Banda , MCP regional governor, Zebron Chilondola, UTM secretary General, Patricia Kaliati and AFORD top officials to mention a few.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has directed the deceased be accorded a state burial.

He was 84 and is survived with 10 children and 40 grand and great grandchildren.
