Ex-Flames Captain John Maduka Unveiled as Maritzburg United Head Coach

Maritzburg United have officially announced former Malawi National Football team, the Flames Captain John Maduka as their new head coach to replace Ernst Middendorp who was sacked last week, South African media has reported.

The Malawian Coach Maduka joins The Team of Choice from Royal AM whom he steered to a third-place finish in their first season in the PSL.

As a result, Maduka’s departure from Royal AM to Maritzburg United came as a shock, especially given the limited resources at the Pietermaritzburg-based side.

A number of coaches, including Gavin Hunt and Fadlu Davids had been linked with the job at Maritzburg United but Chairman Farook Kadodia opted for Maduka.

Maduka has been handed a three-year deal, meaning he will be in charge of Maritzburg United until June 2025.
