ESCOM Threatens To Close Kips Restaurant For Buying Electricity From Employees

Yesterday, Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Chief Executive Officer Kamkwamba Kumwenda stormed Kips main Restaurant in Blantyre accusing the company of buying electricity from parallel markets.

Kumwenda alleges that the company has dubiously been buying units from ESCOM and Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) employees, arguing that this means Kips Restaurant Group owes ESCOM over K61 million.

“We will name and shame all people who are doing such illegal activities for ESCOM is losing about K12 billion every year due to such unpatriotic tendencies,” said Kumwenda.

Kips managers refused to comment on the matter.
