Ekwendeni Hammers To Change Home Ground

Ekwendeni hammers to change homeground from the original Mzuzu stadium to Rumphi Stadium due to pathetic gate revenue collection after the season kicked off.

The supper league team has played four games at their home ground against Civil Service United, Tigers FC, Rumphi United and Mafco FC.

Gift Mkandawire, Ekwendeni Patron said all the games played at Mzuzu stadium have yielded poor revenue, for instance the match which Ekwendeni played against Civil service united raised about 273 500 kwacha and the teams received 48 000 kwacha each compared to the match which Rumphi United played against Civil Service United a day later which yielded about 1.3 million kwacha and each team got 300, 000 kwacha.

“We would like to change because we don’t know what is happening to us. Could it be the same thing to do with the gate fraud exposing at the Kamuzu stadium during the match between mighty wonders and Kamuzu Barracks in which some cashiers were caught and arrested?”, said Mkandawire

Gift has expressed concern for the club because it has no solid sponsor but depends on gates correction for survive.

According to Williams Banda, Super league of Malawi secretary said Ekwendeni hammers issue could be looked into because each team was given an option for two alternative home grounds.

“Before the kick-off each season, we ask each club to state their home ground with a second choice. If they want to change they can do so but what I can advise them is to tell us about their intentions to change the venue. It is not a new thing, it has happened before”, explains Banda

Ekwendeni hammers club had an agreement with Rumphi District Council when the stadium was being constructed to use it as their home ground after the construction.
