Duo arrested for robbing China national at knifepoint in Lilongwe

Police in Lilongwe have arrested two people for allegedly robbing a Chinese national after attacking him on both arms and in the head with a panga knife.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe Police Station , Sub Inspector Foster Benjamin has identified the duo as Samson Frackson and Ackim Gilbert who was arrested on Tuesday April 4 2023 after a three week manhunt following the attack at Maula Junction in Area 6 on the night of March 7 2023.

On the said night, the unsuspecting victim [name withheld] was heading to his shop in Area 4 when he was ambushed by the pair who were concealed in masks.

They immediately robbed him of a laptop computer, a passport, a mobile phone and K900,000 cash and fled, leaving him seriously injured.

When the police arrived, they transported the victim to Kamuzu Central Hospital when he was admitted for treatment.

This prompted a wider investigation which led to the Tuesday arrest of Frackson and Gilbert.

Meanwhile, police have recovered a laptop computer from the suspects’ house.

The two will soon appear in court to answer charges of robbery and unlawful wounding.

Samson Frackson is 39 years old comes from Khwizi Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Malili in Lilongwe District and Akim Gilbert is 31 years old hails from Tenje Village T/A Tambala in Dedza District
