Police opened charges of causing death by reckless driving and drunk driving against the driver of the car that killed a 40-year-old man at the Bingu National Stadium roundabout in Lilongwe yesterday.

Lingadzi Police Station spokesperson Salome Zgambo confirmed that the driver, Sibusiso Kalanzi, was in police custody.

Zgambo explained that the driver had attempted to overtake a truck ahead of him, resulting in a collision with a pedal cyclist, identified as Raphael Edward Sazu, who tragically lost his life on the spot.

A relative of the deceased mentioned that the body would be transported to Mwanza for burial today.
