The opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP is earning a rare praise for breaking the silence on the issue of holding of its elective conference.
The DPP leadership has for a long time ignored calls from both within and outside to make its position known on the holding of a convention.
According to its constitution, the party is required to hold the elective conference in July this year, having held the last one in July 2018.
Yesterday, the party’s Central Executive Committee met in Mangochi, where among other things, it resolved to call for a National Governing Council meeting on the 24th of June.
Commenting on the matter, a political commentator Victor Chipofya hails the party for the development, saying the silence was worrisome.
On the other hand, one of the party’s NGC Members Ken Msonda appeals to the party leadership to tread carefully on the matter.-CAPITAL FM
