Councillor for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to strongly condemn remarks made by one of the youths of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) currently trending on social.
In the video clip currently circulating on social media, a youth putting on MCP regalia is seen holding a machete while threatening to deal with anyone insulting President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
The armed youth is heard threatening to hack anyone holding dissenting views.
Writing on his official facebook page Chimbanga wondered as why President Chakwera has kept his silent on the matter, saying this is uncalled for.
“I am still waiting for President Chakwera to condemn this violence. This country belongs to all Malawians regardless of their political affiliations.
“People must not live in fear. Surprisingly the police have not yet gotten to the bottom of it but are too quick the act when the subject is from an opposition Party,” wrote Chimbanga.
Effort to talk to MCP spokesperson proved futile.
