The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) expressed worries over the increase of number of people who are dying from natural disasters.
DODMA said the number of people who have died from the natural disasters that happened this week, has risen the number from forty nine (49) to fifty six (56).
According to Charles Kalemba, 27 councils across the country have been affected by the disasters.
“16,427 households have been hit by various disasters. Roads, schools and hospitals have not been spared in the damage,” part of the statement reads.
So far, DODMA has reached out to 10,427 households with relief items and has pledged further assistance to affected households in councils.
Early January, the department warned people not to stay in disaster prone areas, to prevent natural disasters.
Meanwhile in Mzuzu, persistent rains have caused flooding in some areas of the city, among the affected are students from Mzuzu University.
