DoDMA distributes maize to hunger affected households in Lilongwe

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has started distributing maize to people who are affected with hunger in Lilongwe District.

District’s Director of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources, Hastings Yotamu, said 79,636 benefited from the program, each of them received three bags of maize in two phases that will run from January to March 2023.

Speaking to council members of the program arrangement, Yotamu said DoDMA is using one transporter, hence a few distribution centers will be targeted in a day.

Western Jakobo, one of the beneficiaries from Shuga Village Traditional Authority Chimutu in the district, thanked the department for the good job.

Jakobo has urged other beneficiaries to make good use of the maize.

The 2022/2023 lean season food insecurity response program is targeting food insecure households, following the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee Report which indicated that about 3.8 million people in the country will be food insecure.
