Dedza Court Sentences Medical Students for Possessing Medical Drugs Illegally

Two medical trainees in Dedza have been fined 650,000 Kwacha or face six months imprisonment with hard labour after being found with assorted medical drugs without a license.

The students, identified as Ivy Nkhata, 20, and Olivia Mazinga, 23, were caught in possession of the drugs and medical equipment without proper authorization.

State prosecutor Inspector Dickson Chipote told the court that the two women were found with an assortment of medical drugs and equipment during a police raid.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges of illegal possession of medical drugs without a license.

During the mitigation process, the two students asked the court for leniency, stating that they were still studying.

The court, however, has fined them a significant amount of money or a prison sentence.
