Crocodile kills fisherman at Lake Chirwa

A 38-year old man in Phalombe was killed on Monday by a Crocodile at Lake Chirwa where he had gone fishing.

Phalombe Police Spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja confirmed the development on Tuesday and identified the deceased as James Zomba who hailed from Maliro village in the area of Traditional Authority Jenala in the district.

According to Kapanja, the deceased met his fate at around 16:00 hours when he, together with his friends went to the lake at a place called Nyandule along the lake for fishing using a canoe.

He explained: “In the process of fishing, the deceased’s friends were surprise to see a Canoe with the clothes of the deceased without the owner and that made the suspicious that he might have been attacked by the Crocodile.

“After searching thoroughly, they found the body of the deceased eaten by the Crocodile and Police from Chitekesa Police Unit rushed to the scene and no foul play suspected.”
