Court Slapped Man 18 Months Imprisonment For Theft By Servant In Balaka

First Grade Magistrate’s Court  in Balaka has convicted and sentenced a 20-year-old man, to pay a fine of K100,000 or in default serve 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for theft by servant.
State prosecutor Sub Inspector Liston Sabola identified the convict as Ben Kamwendo.
Sabola told the court that the convict who is a servant employed as a security guard at Phalula Network Towers and he stole 153 litres of diesel worth K293,000.00 belonging to Malawi Airtel Towers.
Appearing before court, the convict pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft by servant, which prompted the state to parade three witnesses to prove the case.
Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate Phillip Chibwana ordered the convict to pay a fine of K100,000.00 or in default serve 18 months imprisonment with hard labour.
Ben Kamwendo hails from Phalula Village in the area of Traditional Authority Phalula in Balaka District.
