The Industrial Relations Court (IRC) has ordered Standard Bank PLC to compensate four of its former employees money amounting to K2.9 billion for unfair dismissal in 2017.
Lawyer for the claimants, Kalekeni Kaphale has confirmed in an interview that some of his clients got fired after remaining with a few years to retire from the bank.
The Bank fired the four on alleged misconduct which included internal performance matters.
In the order which we have seen, IRC Deputy Chairperson Peter Kandulu says the court has been compelled to award such an amount of money owing to the recent devaluation of the kwacha.
The four are Bernadette Kalumo who until 2017 had saved the Bank for 40 years, Travor Gamuti for 20 years, Wezi Chibambo for 36 years, and Fortune Ndovi for 27 years.
