Court orders confiscation of Paul Mphwiyo’s house

The High Court in Lilongwe has ruled that a house belonging to former Budget Director and cashgate suspect, Paul Mphwiyo be confiscated.

Justice Ruth Chinangwa issued the order on 28th March 2024 following a state application.

On October 24, 2014, court granted Mphwiyo bail while answering charges related to the plunder of K2.4 billion.

Cashgate involved misappropriation of public funds through the transfer of funds from government’s bank accounts to private companies in disguise for payment of goods and services.

Malawi Police Service declared Mphwiyo a fugitive last year after his disappearance on June 16 2023.

He is believed to be outside the country.
