Court fails to deliver ruling in sexual harassment case involving former MBC boss Aubrey Sumbuleta

The High Court in Blantyre has this morning failed to deliver its ruling on preliminary objections in a case that former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director general Aubrey Sumbuleta is being accused of sexually harassing female employees at the institution.

High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa was scheduled to deliver her ruling on the preliminary objections in which Sumbuleta argued that the composition of the Malawi Human Rights Commission’s (MHRC) commission of enquiry that found him guilty of the alleged sexual offences was against the Gender Equality Act.

As such, Sumbuleta wanted his case to go to the Constitutional Court before commencement of trial.

Principal State advocate Mathews Gamadzi has told the press that Sumbuleta’s lawyer, David Kanyenda, informed the court that he would not be available as he is attending to some medical issues.
